PolicyPrivacy
Privacy policy
ALLISON has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your location is used on your device. This page lists everything that ever leaves it.
Effective 2026-10-28. Applies to the ALLISON Astronomy app on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, its widgets, and this website.
What we collect
Nothing that identifies you. ALLISON has no sign-up, no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics SDKs and no third-party tracking. We do not sell or share personal data, because we do not have any.
Your location
ALLISON asks for your location to work out which stars, planets and satellites are above you. It is used on your device for those calculations and is not sent to us.
The one exception is the sky forecast in ALLISON Pro. When you use it, your location is sent to Apple WeatherKit to fetch the weather for where you are. Apple handles that request under Apple’s privacy policy; it is not sent to us. If you never open the forecast, your location is never sent anywhere.
Questions you ask ALLISON
Questions are answered on your device by Apple Intelligence. Speech is turned into text with Apple’s speech recognition, on the device wherever your device supports it; on devices that can’t, Apple may process the audio under Apple’s privacy policy. Your questions are never sent to us, and ALLISON sends them to no other server.
iCloud sync
Your observing log, lists and equipment (ALLISON Pro) are stored on your device and synced between your devices through CloudKit in your own private iCloud database. We cannot see this data. You can delete it in the app, or from iCloud in your device settings.
“What others are looking at” (optional)
If this is switched on, when you start Find mode on an object ALLISON saves a record to a public CloudKit database containing only the object’s catalog identifier (for example “M31”). CloudKit adds its standard metadata: the time it was saved and an app-specific iCloud record identifier that does not reveal your name, email or Apple Account. The record contains no location. Other people see only a count of how many are looking at each object in the last hour. You can turn it off at any time in Settings.
Satellite data and news
To show the ISS and bright satellites, ALLISON downloads current orbital elements from CelesTrak, and it may download space news headlines from the Spaceflight News API. These requests contain no personal data: no location, no identifiers, only a request for the public data. Like any web request, they reveal your IP address to those services, which they handle under their own policies.
Purchases
ALLISON Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple processes payment; we receive no payment details and nothing that identifies you. The app checks your purchase with Apple on your device.
Crash reports
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may share anonymous crash and usage reports with us. You control this in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
This website
allisonastronomy.com sets no cookies and loads no trackers, fonts or scripts from other sites. Like any web host, the network that serves it may keep standard request logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and reliability; we do not use them to identify anyone.
Children
ALLISON collects no personal data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. We will not start collecting personal data without saying so plainly here first.
